The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations, founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein. The IRC responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster, at work in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. In Uganda, the IRC has operated since 1998, initially supporting 1.8 million Ugandans displaced by the Lord's Resistance Army insurgency, and now operates six offices across the country assisting over 1 million people in 2023 with health, education, economic wellbeing, safety and empowerment programming.
