Job Details

Makerere University invites suitably qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Anaesthesia. The role is based in Kampala and reports to the Head of Department. The appointment is on a 4-year contract at remuneration scale PU6.2. The position is full-time with work hours of 8 hours per day. The successful candidate will teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervise student research, mentor junior staff, conduct research and community outreach, and mobilize resources for the department. Base salary is not disclosed. Industry: Education and Training.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach, examine and grade students
  • Supervise research for students
  • Mentor junior staff
  • Conduct research and community outreach activities
  • Write proposals for attracting funding to the department
  • Perform any other official duties as assigned by the Head of Department

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Master of Medicine (MMed) in Anaesthesia or an equivalent postgraduate specialist qualification from a recognized institution
  • At least an upper second Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or its equivalent from a recognized University
  • Be registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC) and possess a valid Annual Practicing License (APL)
  • CGPA of 4.0 and above at undergraduate level (as per Makerere requirements for Assistant Lecturer)
  • Should not exceed 40 years of age at the time of application
  • Strong commitment to teaching, research, mentorship and community service
  • Ability to write fundable proposals and work under the direction of the Head of Department

APPLICANTS FOR THE POSITION OF ASSISTANT LECTURER SHOULD NOT EXCEED 40 YEARS OF AGE AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION. Applicants for Assistant Lecturer should have a CGPA of 4.0 and above except for applicants in the Departments of Psychiatry who should have a CGPA of 3.60 and above.
