Job Details

Emata is looking for an Associate Product Manager based in Kampala, Uganda, to work alongside the CPO across the full product cycle — from talking to farmers and partners, to shaping features, to getting them built, tested, and launched. The role sits close to marketing and branding, focusing on how people hear about a product, decide to trust it, and start using it. This is a genuine junior-level product manager role offering fast growth and learning on the job in a small, mission-driven team of 20+ engineers, data scientists, product & business specialists. Location: Kampala, Uganda (Plot 132 Luthuli Avenue, Bugolobi). Benefits include health insurance, employee shareholder plan, salary loans, flexible hours and vacation, Work from home-policy, daily lunches, and professional development through training and certifications.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Get out and talk to farmers, field agents and agri-company partners — dig for what they actually need, not what is assumed from behind a desk.
  • Turn raw insight into clear product requirements the team can build from.
  • Team up daily with product, AI and engineering colleagues to move features from sketch to launch.
  • Own the last mile: shape how new features are positioned and rolled out so farmers actually use them.
  • Put new features through their paces before they ship — test, break, and ensure they work in the field, not just on the screen.
  • Chase down the story in the data: spot what is landing, what is tripping people up, and what to fix next.
  • Keep the product backlog orderly and help the CPO prioritise.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience, ideally with a marketing or branding background and a real pull toward tech and product.
  • Comfortable with technology — picks up new tools quickly and enjoys figuring out how things work.
  • Good with ambiguity — can take a fuzzy problem, make sense of it, and move it forward without waiting for perfect instructions.
  • Conceptual thinker — sees the bigger picture and can connect dots between farmer needs, product, and business.
  • Strong communicator — writes clearly and explains ideas simply to farmers, engineers, or partners.
  • Organised, self-driven, and happy in a small team where roles stretch.
  • Genuine interest in agriculture, financial inclusion, or East African markets.
  • Nice to have: Exposure to fintech, agri-tech, or working with rural or underserved customers; hands-on experience with product tools, no-code builders, analytics dashboards, or running campaigns.
