Biomedical Technician

Job Details

The Biomedical Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and calibration of medical equipment and devices at Holy Innocents Children's Hospital in Mbarara City, Uganda. This is a full-time position based in Mbarara City. Working hours are 8 hours per day. Salary is not disclosed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on all biomedical equipment, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring devices.
• Diagnose and repair faults in medical equipment, replacing defective parts and ensuring proper functioning.
• Calibrate medical equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
• Assist in the installation and commissioning of new biomedical equipment.
• Ensure all medical equipment meets safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain an inventory of spare parts and equipment, and coordinate with procurement for replacements.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and calibration activities.
• Train clinical staff on the proper use, handling, and care of medical equipment.
• Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and external service providers for specialized repairs.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Equipment Technology or related field.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of maintenance, repair and calibration of biomedical equipment.
• Understanding of safety standards and regulatory requirements for medical devices.
• Skills in inventory management, documentation and training.
