The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for 2 Bodyguard positions in the Regional Security Office. Announcement Number: Kampala-2026-017, Series 0701, Grade FSN 5/FP-9. The work schedule is full-time, 40 hours per week, with variable shifts and 24-hour on-call availability. Opening period: 08/17/2026 – 08/23/2026. Salary: UGX 41,384,371 per annum (actual FS salary determined by Washington D.C.). Security Clearance Required: Public Trust – Background Investigation. Duration: Indefinite subject to successful completion of probationary period. Start date: Candidate must be able to begin within 4 weeks of agency authorization/clearances. Supervisory Position: No. The incumbent serves as a Bodyguard in execution of protective security operations for the U.S. Ambassador/Chief of Mission (COM) and other designated or visiting U.S. government officials as directed, under supervision of the BG Supervisor and managed by the Regional Security Officer (RSO) in Kampala. Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide close protection services for the COM and Emergency Action Committee (EAC) approved personnel in varied and sometimes life-threatening environments as principal BG or team member, including motorcade operations, walking moves and residence security; authorized use of force per local laws, Post/Mission Use of Force policy and Department of State guidance (70%).
  • Provide perimeter security by standing post and conducting counter-surveillance at events attended by protectee; draft reports for the Regional Security Officer regarding daily duties, equipment, expenses and irregularities; travel to various locations in host country to provide protection support.
  • Oversee complex security arrangements at hotels, convention centers, restaurants and other special event venues visited by protectee; work with other BGs to produce detailed security surveys and recommend placement of security personnel and resources to control access and enhance safety; conduct advance security planning at all venues and primary, secondary and emergency route planning (20%).
  • Establish and build relationships with mid-level and senior Kampala officials from law enforcement, protocol and local security elements to facilitate protective operations and maintain good relations for the U.S. Embassy protection team; maintain liaison with local government law enforcement and security officials, protocol offices and local security in various jurisdictions throughout the country (10%).
  • Serve as emergency driver for the protectee (e.g., incapacitated limo driver) using defensive driving techniques; operate manual transmission Sport Utility Vehicle.
  • Must be physically fit and able to endure frequent travel, long working hours and stressful working environment.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Education: Completion of Secondary Education or High School Diploma is required.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of private sector, government, police, or military experience in one or more of: bodyguard, armed escort, law enforcement officer, combat arms or infantry soldier, or other related professional security experience.
  • Job Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of defense measures to be used in event of personal or terrorist attack as learned in military or law enforcement training; knowledge in medical, fire, hostile attack, defensive and emergency driving procedures; familiarity with Uganda's Police Services, military, security and other government offices to ensure effective liaison and facilitate advance and motorcade operations.
  • Language: English – Limited knowledge (speaking, reading, writing); Luganda or Kiswahili – Limited knowledge (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Skills and Abilities: Initiative and resourcefulness; ability to deal effectively with people of other cultures; good leadership and interpersonal skills; good working computer skills; must be able to work variable shifts, 24-hour on-call schedule and travel outside capital city as needed; proficient in first aid and use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED), AED/CPR qualified; alert with fast reflexes, active thinking, excellent observational skills, adaptability, decisive actions, calm in dangerous situations, teamwork and effective oral/written communication; physically fit; skilled in use of firearm; host government Driver's License to operate up to Sport Utility Vehicle required; ability to operate manual transmission vehicle.
