CIC Insurance Group PLC is seeking a Business Development Officer – Group Risk based in Kampala, Uganda. The role reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for driving sustainable and profitable growth of the Group Risk portfolio by originating new business, deepening intermediary and client relationships, and delivering tailored group insurance solutions while maintaining alignment with underwriting standards, pricing discipline and regulatory requirements. Employment is full-time.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive acquisition of new Group Risk business across corporates, SMEs, MFIs, SACCOs, associations and affinity groups through targeted prospecting
- Develop and execute robust annual and quarterly sales strategies to deliver premium, revenue and portfolio growth targets
- Build, manage and optimize high-quality sales pipeline from lead generation to closure; design compelling client-centric proposals aligned with benefit structures and underwriting guidelines
- Negotiate commercial terms within delegated authority balancing competitiveness with profitability
- Establish and nurture long-term relationships with corporate clients, trustees, HR leaders and key decision-makers; lead renewal negotiations and conduct structured client review meetings
- Oversee seamless onboarding of new schemes and proactively manage client concerns with internal stakeholders
- Build productive partnerships with brokers, agents, bancassurance channels and intermediaries; provide technical and commercial support including training and joint client engagements
- Track and evaluate intermediary performance ensuring compliance with policies and Treating Customers Fairly principles; drive joint marketing initiatives to strengthen market penetration
- Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial and reinsurance teams for sound risk assessment and competitive pricing; gather and validate client data including demographics and claims history
- Actively monitor portfolio performance focusing on premium growth, persistency and loss ratios; support scheme reviews and corrective interventions with claims and underwriting teams
- Track market trends, competitor activity and client needs to inform product development and support product launches and branding efforts
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and governance frameworks; maintain accurate CRM records and prepare timely reports on sales performance and market developments
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Insurance and Banking, Business Administration, Marketing, or related discipline
- Professional insurance qualification such as ACII, CII or Diploma in Insurance
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in sales and business development
- Strong sales and business development skills and good insurance product knowledge
- Excellent customer service orientation and ability to build and maintain strong relationships
- Clear communication and presentation skills
- Analytical and reporting ability, strong compliance and risk awareness, good planning and time management
- Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic environment, teamwork and collaboration
