The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is responsible for developing and executing the company's commercial strategy to drive sustainable revenue growth, market expansion, customer acquisition, and strategic partnerships. The role provides executive leadership over business development, sales, partnerships, marketing, customer growth initiatives, and commercial performance, identifying new business opportunities, strengthening existing revenue channels, developing strategic relationships, and ensuring alignment between commercial activities and the company's overall business objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the company's commercial strategy aligned with business growth objectives.
  • Translate corporate strategy into measurable commercial plans, revenue targets, and growth initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and oversight across business development, sales, partnerships, and customer acquisition functions.
  • Establish commercial performance frameworks, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Advise the Executive Team and Board on market trends, revenue opportunities, and commercial risks.
  • Drive achievement of revenue, sales, and portfolio growth targets.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, markets, customer segments, and revenue streams.
  • Develop strategies to increase customer acquisition, retention, and lifetime value.
  • Build and maintain a strong commercial pipeline.
  • Lead negotiations for major business opportunities, partnerships, and strategic contracts.
  • Develop go-to-market strategies for new products and services.
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with corporates, institutions, agencies, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify partnership opportunities that enhance market reach and business growth.
  • Establish partnership frameworks, commercial agreements, and performance expectations.
  • Manage key stakeholder relationships at senior executive level.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to sales and business development teams.
  • Establish sales targets, KPIs, incentives, and performance management frameworks.
  • Monitor sales performance and implement corrective measures where required.
  • Develop sales strategies, processes, and tools to improve conversion rates.
  • Coach and mentor commercial teams to achieve high performance.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, customer needs, and emerging opportunities.
  • Use market insights to inform product development and commercial decisions.
  • Develop customer acquisition and retention strategies.
  • Champion customer-centric approaches across the business.
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer experience and satisfaction.
  • Work closely with marketing teams to develop campaigns that support commercial objectives.
  • Ensure marketing initiatives translate into measurable business outcomes.
  • Support brand positioning and market visibility.
  • Oversee customer engagement strategies and commercial communications.
  • Establish commercial reporting structures and performance dashboards.
  • Track revenue performance, sales pipeline, conversion rates, and market growth.
  • Present commercial performance updates to the Executive Team.
  • Ensure effective coordination between Commercial, Finance, Operations, Credit, and other departments.
  • Develop and manage the commercial department budget.
  • Ensure efficient allocation of commercial resources.
  • Evaluate return on investment for commercial initiatives.
  • Approve commercial plans within delegated authority.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Commerce, or a related field; Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field required.
  • Minimum 8–12 years' experience in commercial leadership, business development, sales, partnerships or strategic growth roles.
  • Strong commercial, business development, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven experience in financial services, investment management, banking, or related sectors.
