Maisha Meds — Technology Transforming Healthcare in Africa (https://maishameds.org/) — builds user-driven software that helps private pharmacies and clinics deliver quality, affordable care while growing stronger businesses. Founded in 2017, it has created the largest digital network of private pharmacies and clinics across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, and Zambia through its mobile software.
- 1. Best-in-class business software: Designed for low-connectivity, pen-and-paper settings to track inventory, make sales and track patients. Pharmacies using the POS increased revenues by 24% on average in year one and 30% by year two.
- 2. Evidence-backed patient programs: Within the same software, opt-in programs for malaria, HIV, family planning and vision use quality-assured supply chains, targeted reimbursements and AI-enhanced auditing to dramatically reduce costs (50-80% savings vs traditional programs, 330% increase in high-quality malaria care). Validated by RCTs with UC Berkeley, Emory and KEMRI.
- 3. Industry-leading data insights: 25-34 million patient visits logged annually, creating real-time geotagged data to inform governments, funders and researchers.
- Why join: Doubling year-over-year, backed by Stanford School of Medicine, Google, mPharma and I&M Bank veterans; supported by Gates Foundation, USAID DIV, CIFF, WHO FIND, Pfizer; disrupting a $50+ billion market for healthcare payments for low-income patients; fun, start-up culture with huge impact.
Relevance to this role: The Claims Assurance Associate directly protects the integrity of these reimbursement-driven programs through accurate claims review, verification and fraud detection — ensuring subsidized medicines reach patients at the right price and providers are reimbursed correctly.
