Computer Instructor / IT Support based at JRS Adjumani project office, under direct supervision of the Economic Inclusion and Livelihood Coordinator, with technical guidance from Kampala Project IT Officer. The role provides high-quality computer training in Basic Computer Literacy and Advanced Computer Networking using Competency-Based Training Curriculum (CBET) while providing day-to-day IT support for Adjumani office including Microsoft 365, Azure, networks and information security. Requires regular travel to JRS locations and field venues. Nationally recruited position for candidates with legal authorization to work in Uganda. Application deadline Monday 24th August 2026.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and update IT training materials and curriculum for basic computer literacy based on CBET; create course outlines, work plans, lesson plans and instructional resources.
  • Support enrolment of beneficiaries for Basic and Advanced computer courses and handle daily instruction for enrolled students.
  • Conduct IT training sessions, assessments and practical exercises; provide career guidance and supervision during teaching and learning.
  • Identify training needs for procurement planning and manage IT training materials per JRS resource management policies.
  • Provide basic health education to trainees, monitor daily attendance via biometric machines and ensure retention and successful completion.
  • Write and submit quality weekly and monthly reports; select and present eligible students for assessment and submit lists for certification.
  • Maintain confidentiality, collect Means of Verification (enrolment registers, photos, progress reports, test results) and maintain student file records.
  • Collaborate with staff to troubleshoot hardware and software issues including installation and upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate records of IT assets, computers, peripherals and network equipment.
  • Stay updated on software features, plan upgrades and migrations, and provide training on Office 365 (Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams) across devices.
  • Develop how-to guides and video tutorials and assist in management of Microsoft Azure Platform, servers and networks.
  • Review and implement internet usage policies, ensure compliance with computer use, information security and privacy policies.
  • Write and maintain documentation for procedures and configurations; research and recommend software and hardware purchases.
  • Implement systems backups, archiving and disaster recovery; monitor systems for vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.
  • Configure and manage security settings and compliance features; resolve LAN/WAN connectivity issues and prepare regular IT operations reports.
  • Collaborate closely with Livelihoods department and instructors in activity management meetings and beneficiary follow-up.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • BSc degree or Diploma in Computer Sciences / Information Technology / Information Systems.
  • Certified in networks (CCNA or equivalent); Certified in Microsoft (MCSE/MCSA or equivalent), Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS) is a plus.
  • Proven experience as IT Technician or relevant position with excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth understanding of computer systems and networks; good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and client operating systems, Azure identity management, Microsoft Active Directory and SD networking such as Ubiquiti devices.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office 365 services and competence in Office 365 and Microsoft Office.
  • Proven experience designing and managing IT projects and conducting digital literacy assessments.
  • Experience creating ICT policies and strategies and solid experience in ICT hardware/software acquisition and management.
  • Instructional delivery, curriculum implementation, lesson planning, student mentorship and assessment skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; high integrity, professionalism, adaptability and commitment to JRS mission.
