Job Details

Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) is seeking qualified Counselors to provide pre-test and post-test counselling and ongoing psychosocial support to clients, patients, study participants and community members in Rakai, Uganda. The role involves communicating HIV results, providing HIV/AIDS and general health education, supporting HIV disclosure, promoting couple counselling and partner notification, and providing psychosocial support to individuals requiring additional care. Full-time position requiring fluency in English and Luganda and motorcycle riding skills.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide pre-test and post-test HIV counselling and communicate HIV results
• Offer ongoing psychosocial support to individuals requiring additional care
• Support couple counselling, HIV disclosure and partner notification
• Conduct HIV/AIDS and general health education
• Prepare counselling activity reports and collect relevant bio-behavioral health data
• Participate in counselling meetings

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Relevant counselling qualification (MOH HCT certificate is an added advantage)
• Substantial counselling experience including two years’ experience and HIV/AIDS counselling or experience within a medical setting
• Fluency in English and Luganda
• Motorcycle riding skills with a valid riding permit
• Experience in community counselling, HIV disclosure, data collection and teamwork skills are added advantages
