Q-Sourcing Limited trading as Q-Sourcing Servtec, on behalf of our client SunCulture in the Renewable Energies Sector, is seeking a competent, skilled and experienced Engineering Team Lead to work in Kampala, Uganda. The core role is end-to-end management of people and resources allocated to the field team, including implementing technical tasks, team recruitment and management, planning and creating team workflow via job allocation, reporting and documentation, staff training/coaching and ensuring high performance. The role requires developing successful relationships with internal and external customers and providing technical support to new and existing customers. Full-time. Location: Kampala. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning and Coordination: Conduct site visits for pre-feasibility and feasibility assessments including collection and analysis of site information; source and manage necessary tools, materials and equipment for technical activities; ensure effective time management and communication so assigned projects are completed within timelines and budgets; allocate jobs effectively based on workload, skills, location and priority
- Risk Management: Proactively identify project and field risks and develop mitigation strategies; conduct risk assessments during installations and ensure safety measures; communicate and seek guidance on risks or challenges; ensure compliance with safety procedures and company policies
- Customer Service: Ensure quality of technical projects meets client expectations including communicating progress and responding to feedback; conduct customer training after every installation ensuring at least one additional user can operate, maintain and service the system; maintain regular contact with clients to ensure satisfaction; address after-sales and warranty claims promptly; represent company professionally and uphold values and ethical standards
- Documentation and Reporting: Submit all required documentation before and after installations in prescribed format; conduct project follow-ups and provide documentation relating to work allocation, progress and reports; recruit, onboard, train and manage Field Technicians; ensure productivity by allocating jobs and ensuring completion within turnaround time and quality standards; follow up to ensure clients are contacted before visits and dates agreed; review and verify survey, installation, after-sales and repossession reports; follow up jobs pending due to client unavailability; review expense claim forms and highlight irregularities; submit detailed weekly reports outlining progress, challenges and key risks; accurately enter technical and client information into company systems
- Leadership and Team Management: Work closely with Engineering Manager to align work plans and communicate challenges; build culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement; identify gaps in survey, installation and after-sales processes and recommend improvements; properly onboard new team members into company culture; conduct daily check-ins, provide timely feedback and address challenges; coach and develop team members to improve technical skills and productivity; monitor performance and address gaps
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biosystems Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline required
- At least two years of experience managing a team of more than 10 people required
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership and accountability for team successes and failures
- Proven track record of high performance and strong execution
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills, with commitment to achieving team objectives
- Detail-oriented, focused, and comfortable working in environment of ambiguity and change
- Self-aware, humble, and committed to continuous improvement as a leader and professional
- Strong customer management, relationship management, communication, and team management skills
