English & School Education Project Officer
Job Details
The British Council Uganda is seeking an English & School Education Project Officer to support the English and School Education programme team in the implementation of programmes and contracts, in compliance with British Council policies and procedures, including financial administration, reporting and data collection, evaluation, operational project delivery, and managing relations with delivery partners. This is an Indefinite (Internal/External) Full Time position at Pay Band 4 in the Cultural Engagement Department, based in Uganda. The role supports addressing challenges in Uganda's education sector, including strengthening teacher training and professional development, improving English language proficiency, and improving equitable access in refugee-hosting districts. Closing date: 09:29 PM Uganda (EAT), Thursday 27 August 2026. Interviews scheduled between 7th to 18th September.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Hold vendors and suppliers to account for service delivery and work independently to manage workload against project deadlines.
- Plan and report on project budgets, expenditure and forecasting to Programme Managers and the Head of English and School Education, managing smaller budgets directly.
- Maintain accurate financial records in line with internal and external audit requirements, ensure vendor payments are processed on time in line with SAP Finance guidelines, and comply with British Council financial policies and any external funder or partner requirements.
- Manage data entry, quality assurance and basic analysis of monitoring data, producing progress reports for funders.
- Support internal compliance through due diligence, records management and data storage, and manage grants administration, selection, evaluation and procurement processes, along with events-based programme components and training.
- Support the project or programme manager in implementing diversity mainstreaming action plans.
- Manage relationships with clients, partners, stakeholders and vendors at the appropriate level, holding suppliers to account for delivery.
- Consistently create an inclusive and anti-racist organisational culture, being aware of personal bias and supporting colleagues' wellbeing.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Degree or proven experience in one of British Council's portfolio areas (Arts, Education, English).
- Experience of working in a supporting role on programmes or contracts.
- Administrative and financial administration and reporting experience.
- Good understanding of basic concepts of monitoring and evaluation, and how they are central to good project management.
- Experience of working with external partners and stakeholders.
- Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
- Must have legal right to work in Uganda.
