Job Details

Field Officer based in Kaliro District, Uganda, reporting to the Associate Field Manager. The role executes recipient surveys and field processes that facilitate GiveDirectly's cash transfer model via mobile money, working across Census, Registration and Follow-up teams. This is a field-based short-term contract of 5 months with applications processed on a rolling basis. Requires physical fitness to cope with difficult terrain and weather, and fluency in Lulamogi (mandatory) and Lugwere. Female candidates are encouraged to apply.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Explain GiveDirectly's program to entire villages via barazas, answer questions and meet with village elders and guides to understand village boundaries.
  • Visit every household in the village, complete census surveys with accurate data using digital tools and eliminate ineligible households.
  • Provide cell phones as necessary, ensure household member is ready to operate phone to access transfers and reinforce program and safety information.
  • Complete registration surveys with accurate data using digital tools (Commcare, Salesforce, Google Suite).
  • Conduct follow-up surveys by phone or in person to confirm transfer receipt and collect improvement data.
  • Answer hotline calls from recipients, address questions and escalate problems as necessary.
  • Resolve registration problems for people not registered with mobile money or registered with wrong name.
  • Identify, report and escalate adverse events including intra-household conflict, rumors or bribe reports to team leader.
  • Reward high-quality judgment, work ethic, communication and commitment to GiveDirectly's mission.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Language requirement: Lulamogi (mandatory) and Lugwere.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
  • Previous working experience in Humanitarian sector (at least 1 year) and previous field work with vulnerable communities (1-2 years minimum).
  • Computer and mobile device data entry ability or experience (Commcare, Salesforce, Google Suite).
  • Empathy, honesty and highest standards of integrity.
  • Strong interest in advancing GiveDirectly's values and mission.
  • Patience and good judgment in resolving recipient problems.
  • Physical fitness and ability to cope with difficult weather conditions or terrain.
