Job Details
Saferworld is seeking a Finance Officer for the Sudan programme to be based in Uganda, reporting to the Finance Manager. The role supports smooth and efficient financial management for Saferworld Sudan, maintaining strong financial systems and controls and ensuring financial records are accurate, comprehensive and up to date. The post works closely with the Finance Manager, Finance Coordinator and wider team on bookkeeping, banking, monthly financial processes and statutory compliance including withholding tax (WHT). Location: Uganda (Sudan programme). Closing Date: 24 August 2026. Employment Type: Full Time.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support smooth and efficient financial management within Saferworld Sudan, maintaining strong financial systems and controls.
- Ensure financial records are accurate, comprehensive and up to date.
- Process payments and review supporting documents for completeness and compliance.
- Maintain bank and petty cash reconciliations and ensure consistency across general ledger accounts and budget codes.
- Prepare monthly financial reports, upload transactions and support balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure timely filing of statutory requirements such as WHT.
- Provide audit support by retrieving samples and preparing confirmations.
- Work closely with the Finance Manager, Finance Coordinator and wider team to uphold high standards of financial integrity.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in internal controls and financial systems as required by management.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Experience in financial management, bookkeeping and banking tasks in an NGO/international organisation setting is expected (specific degree not stated in advert - see full job description PDF).
- Strong knowledge of financial systems, controls, general ledger, budget codes and reconciliations.
- Ability to prepare monthly financial reports and support audit processes.
- High standards of accuracy, integrity and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with finance and programme teams.
