AsOne Ministries is a Christ-centered nonprofit committed to making disciples and creating sustainable solutions in education, enterprise, health and agriculture in rural, underserved communities across Uganda. The Fine Art Teacher is based in Luuka / Serere Community, Uganda (Serere) and works closely with the Director of Studies, fellow subject teachers and AsOne leadership. This is a full-time role (8 work hours) responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging Fine Art instruction to secondary school students (O-Level and/or A-Level) in line with the national curriculum and Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) syllabus. Salary is not disclosed. The role aims to equip students with drawing, painting, design and craft skills, creative and critical thinking for academic advancement, self-expression and future careers in art and design within a Christ-centered learning environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver Fine Art lessons in line with the national secondary curriculum and UNEB syllabus requirements
• Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment schedules for all assigned classes (O-Level and/or A-Level)
• Deliver clear, engaging lessons that build skills in drawing, painting, design, lettering and three-dimensional (3D) work, along with art history, theory and criticism
• Use varied teaching methods, demonstrations and hands-on studio practice to accommodate different learning styles and ability levels
• Set, administer and mark class tests, practical assignments, coursework portfolios and examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback
• Track learner performance and progress, identifying gaps and providing remedial support where needed
• Prepare students for national examinations (UCE/UACE), including practical examination components and coursework/portfolio submission, ensuring full syllabus coverage
• Guide students in the study of local and international art forms, design principles and craft techniques relevant to the Ugandan cultural context
• Integrate creativity, cultural heritage appreciation and entrepreneurial application of art and craft skills in line with Ministry of Education and Sports guidelines
• Plan and supervise practical art lessons, studio sessions and craft-making activities using a range of media (pencil, paint, clay, textiles, found/local materials)
• Guide students in safe and correct use of art tools, materials and equipment including cutting tools, paints and kilns/ovens where applicable
• Maintain art studio/room equipment and materials and coordinate with administration on procurement of art supplies
• Ensure health and safety standards are observed during all practical, studio and craft-based activities
• Organize art exhibitions, craft fairs, school decoration projects or cultural/creative activities that reinforce classroom learning with real-world and community application
• Mentor students interested in art, design and craft-related career paths including further studies in fine art, graphic design, architecture and creative industries
• Encourage participation in art clubs, craft/design competitions, exhibitions and academic showcases
• Provide guidance and extra practical tuition to students struggling with Fine Art concepts or techniques
• Support students in developing marketable art and craft skills that align with AsOne's focus on sustainable livelihoods and enterprise
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance and continuous assessment/portfolio work
• Contribute to budgeting and procurement for art materials, tools, textbooks and teaching aids
• Ensure proper care, maintenance and stock control of art tools, materials, students' work/portfolios and instructional resources
• Maintain an organized bank of past papers, sample portfolios and revision aids to support examination preparation
• Work collaboratively with Director of Studies and fellow teachers, participate in departmental meetings, staff briefings and school-wide events
• Collaborate on co-curricular activities including art clubs, cultural days and creative/enterprise projects; engage parents and local community and link students to local artisans or craft markets where appropriate
• Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Education with Fine Art as a teaching subject, or a related field (Art and Design, Industrial Fine Art or equivalent)
• Minimum of 2 years' teaching experience at secondary school level, preferably teaching Fine Art
• Sound knowledge of the national secondary Fine Art curriculum, UNEB syllabus and Ministry of Education and Sports guidelines
• Practical experience and demonstrated skill across drawing, painting, design and craft/3D techniques
• Registered/licensed with the relevant Ugandan teaching body where applicable (e.g., valid Teaching Practice Certificate/registration with Ministry of Education and Sports)
• Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to Christ-centered education
• Passionate about teaching and mentoring young people in creative and artistic expression
• Patient, clear and skilled at breaking down technical or abstract artistic concepts for learners at different levels
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, balancing lesson planning, marking of practical work/portfolios and studio sessions
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff and parents
• High level of integrity, responsibility and accountability for school resources, especially art tools and materials
• Collaborative team player who contributes positively to the wider school community
• Strong command of Fine Art subject content, techniques and media across the secondary curriculum
• Skilled in practical/studio instruction, demonstration techniques and supervision of craft and art-making processes
• Competent in lesson planning, practical assessment design, portfolio evaluation and academic record-keeping
• Basic proficiency in using technology and instructional aids; capable of maintaining a safe, organized and functional art studio/workspace
