aBi Development Ltd in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA) Uganda and Café Africa Uganda (CAU), is implementing the Empowering Young Women Entrepreneurs in Agriculture Stimulated by Coffee (EYE-C) Programme - a five-year initiative designed to enhance economic empowerment, resilience, leadership, and access to dignified and fulfilling work for young women entrepreneurs in the coffee value chain and complementary enterprises in Uganda.
The Gender, Inclusion & Safeguarding Specialist will ensure that the EYE-C Programme is inclusive, gender transformative, and protective of all participants. The programme focuses on addressing market system barriers, skills gaps, and access to finance constraints while strengthening ecosystem actors that support young women to transition into dignified and fulfilling work.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the EYE-C Programme is inclusive, gender transformative, and protective of all participants across all programme activities and partnerships
- Lead mainstreaming of gender, inclusion and safeguarding principles across the EYE-C Programme design, implementation and monitoring in Central, Eastern, Western and South-Western coffee-growing regions
- Support identification and addressing of market system barriers that hinder young women's economic empowerment, resilience and leadership in the coffee value chain and complementary enterprises
- Strengthen capacity of ecosystem actors and implementing partners on gender equality, social inclusion and safeguarding standards
- Support skills development and access to finance interventions to be gender-responsive and inclusive
- Establish and strengthen safeguarding policies, prevention measures, reporting and response mechanisms to protect programme participants
- Monitor, document and report on gender, inclusion and safeguarding outcomes and compliance; contribute to learning and knowledge management (refer to detailed JD at https://shorturl.at/noGBx for full duties)
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social Work and Social Sciences, or a related field is required
- Knowledge and experience in gender transformative approaches, social inclusion and safeguarding/protection in development programmes, preferably in agriculture/market systems
- Understanding of cross-cutting themes - Gender, Youth, Green Growth and Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) - and their integration from project design to implementation
- Strong analytical, training, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills to work with young women entrepreneurs and ecosystem actors
- Excellent communication, documentation and reporting skills
- Commitment to aBi values: Professionalism and Innovation, and to prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment
- Ability to work across field locations in Central, Eastern, Western and South-Western Uganda
