Job Details

Grant Thornton Uganda is recruiting a Head Risk on behalf of its client, a leading commercial bank in Uganda. The role provides independent strategic leadership of the Bank's risk management function, ensuring effective identification, assessment, monitoring and mitigation of key risks and alignment with the Bank's risk appetite, strategy and regulatory requirements. The position is based at 3rd Floor, Lugogo One, Plot 23, Lugogo Bypass, Kampala, reports to the Managing Director and supervises the Risk Manager and ICT Risk Officer. Employment Type: Full-time. Work Hours: 8 hours.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive risk management framework.
  • Monitor and manage credit, market, operational, ICT, regulatory and reputational risks.
  • Provide independent risk oversight and strategic advice to Management and the Board.
  • Oversee risk measurement, reporting, limits, mitigation strategies and ICAAP.
  • Promote a strong risk culture while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Champion the Bank's ESG agenda, ensuring effective implementation, reporting and compliance with applicable ESG standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, ICT, Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification in Risk Management/CRM, FRM or CFA is preferred.
  • At least 10 years' combined banking and finance experience, including a minimum 5 years in a risk management position.
  • Strong knowledge of banking operations, regulatory requirements, risk frameworks and quantitative analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide independent thought leadership and influence a strong risk culture.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, stakeholder management and change management skills.
  • High ethical standards, integrity and independence of judgement.
  • Proficiency in English Language and any other local language, preferably Luganda.
