The HSE Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations regarding implementation of HSE regulations, policies, procedures and contribute to the application of effective Health, Safety and Environmental management system by providing technical support. They will support the company in making HSE regulations, plans, programs, procedures and drafting policies in line with company objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing effective HSE policies, guidelines and procedures in line with company goals and objectives
- Ensure all staff and visitors observe HSE regulations, wear all required safety equipment, encourage safe working practices, correct obvious hazards immediately or report them to management
- Ensure that the factory has proper risk emergency plans in place and are implemented
- Assist the Quality Assurance team in conducting training needs assessment and ensure that all staff are adequately trained in Occupation Health and Safety Precautions
- Ensure proper waste management in and outside the factory and that all waste generated as a result of operations is handled in accordance with local and national regulations
- Ensure that the factory complies with all Environmental Health, safety and Local Government Regulations
- Support the department in carrying out environmental audits, both internal and external, and implement corrective actions
- Assist in coordinating emergency response and administering first aid
- Carry out investigation into any issues related to violations of HSE standards
- Plan and conduct HSE training for all employees in the company, in liaison with the Human Resources Manager
- Ensure minimum impacts to health and the Environment from nuisances such as dust, odor, noise and vibration
- Provide pollution control mechanisms and protect employees from foreseeable work hazards by ensuring safe working Environment
- Ensure that the Effluent Treatment Plant is monitored daily and is well maintained
- Liaise with and maintain positive and proactive relations with managers, employees, the community contact persons and the area local municipal council and other regulatory agencies to ensure effective implementation of HSE programs
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline from a recognized Institution
- A minimum of 2+ years' experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Attention to detail
- Must be able to work under minimal supervision and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
