Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for People with Disability in Uganda (CoRSU) is hiring an Imaging Technologist (01 vacancy) on a Locum payment grade within the Medical Directorate. The role reports to the Team Leader Imaging Services and is based at CoRSU Hospital, Kawuku, Entebbe Road, Kisubi, Wakiso, Uganda (Duty Station: Uganda).

Overall Job Objective: To support and guide the clinical team in diagnosis and management of patient conditions by performing imaging services as requested.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare eligible individuals for imaging procedures: explaining, positioning, and providing clarification to individuals’ queries.
  • Perform imaging procedures for eligible individuals, ensuring high-quality diagnostic images and proper exposure techniques to aid clinical diagnosis.
  • Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure.
  • Ensure efficient and timely service delivery by clearly prioritizing and systematically reallocating both X-ray and ultrasound scans to out-patients and in-patients.
  • Operate imaging equipment to capture high-quality images of various body parts.
  • Adjust exposure settings to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining image quality.
  • Utilize appropriate imaging techniques and protocols.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Adhere at all times to radiation protection and safety guidelines given by the Atomic Energy Council (AEC) to protect patients, staff, and self from unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Conduct basic quality assurance procedures for X-ray services.
  • Maintain strict infection control measures in line with Hospital prevention protocols.
  • Monitor and manage radiation exposure levels.
  • Record patient information, procedure details, and store digital image findings accurately in the hospital’s data management system.
  • Assist in collecting and managing radiological data for reporting to key stakeholders.
  • Perform data entry on a variety of electronic platforms to a high standard of quality.
  • Support in the preparation of AEC reports.
  • Provide regular updates on the number of X-rays performed, diagnoses made, and any equipment-related issues.
  • Write accurate X-Ray reports for patients presenting for imaging services.
  • Ensure that all imaging equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functional.
  • Report any faults to the Head of Imaging Services, Head of Diagnostics and Pharmacy or to the Biomedical Engineer, as well as the Medical Director.
  • Work closely with clinical, laboratory, and community teams to plan and deliver quality and timely radiography services to targeted communities and individuals.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure timely interpretation of radiographs and accurate documentation of results.
  • Proactively support troubleshooting processes to ensure minimal interruption of imaging service provision.
  • Manage and account for allocated resources especially consumables by compiling and submitting relevant reports.
  • Ensure adherence to the unit budget to ensure optimal use of resources.
  • Evaluate the patient’s medical history, the potential benefits of the procedure, and the associated risks.
  • Continuously assess risk inherent in department and ensure adherence to mitigation measures in place.
  • Adhere to high ethical standards and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adhere to all CoRSU Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography / Medical Imaging.
  • Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals’ Council.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in imaging / radiography.
  • Proficiency in X-ray and ultrasound equipment operation and image acquisition techniques.
  • Knowledge of digital, automatic and manual X-ray processing.
  • Strong understanding and application of radiation safety principles.
  • Knowledge of specific imaging techniques relevant to rehabilitation medicine (e.g., musculoskeletal imaging).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills (Leadership competency).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Good patient interaction.

Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for People with Disability in Uganda (CoRSU) — https://corsuhospital.org — is a specialized rehabilitation hospital founded in 2006 as a local NGO. Over 15 years, CoRSU has changed the lives of over 60,000 children through surgical services and rehabilitated over 100,000 patients.
