Nakasero Hospital is hiring an In-House Emergency Medicine Physician to provide high-quality, compassionate emergency care in its Accident & Emergency (A&E) unit. The Emergency Medicine Physician provides prompt, high-quality and compassionate clinical care to patients presenting to the A&E unit and other departments, and is responsible for rapid assessment, triage, stabilization, treatment and appropriate referral or admission across the full spectrum of medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric and trauma emergencies. Reporting: Deputizes for the Head of Department (HOD) and provides leadership and oversight of departmental clinical, administrative and operational activities

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Assess, resuscitate and stabilize patients presenting with clinical emergencies in the A&E
Perform rapid assessment, triage, stabilization, treatment and referral/ admission across medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric and trauma emergencies
Participate in diagnosis, treatment and perform emergency procedures
Provide immediate management and facilitate transfer of critically ill patients to critical care units (ICU/HDU)
Consult and coordinate the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in delivery of emergency care services
Provide clinical leadership, teaching and supervision within the emergency unit
Ensure appropriate disposition, continuity of care and effective patient communication
Deputize for the HOD and provide leadership and oversight of departmental clinical, administrative and operational activities
Ensure timely communication, documentation and reporting
Observe patient-and-family-centred care, ethics and medico-legal compliance and safeguard patient safety and experience

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine (MMed EM) - postgraduate degree level
Fully licensed and registered by the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC)
Certifications in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - mandatory
A minimum of one (1) year experience as an Emergency Medicine Specialist (12 months)
Experience in critical care is an added advantage
Demonstrated ability to lead emergency teams, supervise and teach, and coordinate multidisciplinary emergency care
Commitment to high-quality, compassionate, ethical and patient-centred practice
