Job Details
CIC Insurance Group PLC is seeking an Internal Auditor based in Kampala, Uganda. The role reports to the Director, Internal Audit (and administratively) and provides independent and objective assurance on the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal control processes. The position is full-time and supports the evolution of Internal Audit toward a technology-enabled, data-driven and risk-focused function.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in risk assessments and contribute to development of the annual internal audit work plan; develop and implement audit assignments in line with approved plan
- Conduct risk-based audits across underwriting, claims, finance, investments, procurement, HR, IT, branches and other functions
- Review business processes, transactions, systems and controls to assess adequacy, effectiveness and compliance; develop audit objectives, scope, matrices, programmes and testing procedures
- Perform substantive and compliance testing, obtain sufficient audit evidence, identify control gaps, inefficiencies, irregularities and risks, and prepare evidence-based findings and recommendations
- Assess effectiveness of internal control environment and evaluate whether controls adequately mitigate operational, financial, compliance and strategic risks
- Use data analytics for audit planning, risk assessment, testing and continuous monitoring, including analysis of large datasets; develop data-driven tests to identify exceptions, trends, anomalies and control breaches using Excel, IDEA, Power BI or equivalent
- Review financial transactions, revenue, expenditure, payroll, procurement, receivables, payables and underwriting and claims for accuracy and control weaknesses
- Assess compliance with applicable laws, regulations, insurance industry requirements and governance frameworks; identify non-compliance and follow up on findings
- Identify fraud indicators and support investigations; evaluate fraud prevention and detection controls and escalate material irregularities
- Prepare timely audit reports with risk implications, root causes and recommendations; discuss findings with process owners and present significant issues to Director and management committees
- Maintain updated audit issues tracker, conduct follow-up reviews, escalate overdue high-risk issues and validate management evidence before closure
- Provide objective advisory support on new processes and controls without compromising independence and keep abreast of changes in legislation and emerging risks
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management or related discipline
- Professional qualification such as CIA, ACCA, CPA, CISA or equivalent is highly desirable; membership of recognized professional accounting/auditing body is an added advantage
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in internal audit, external audit, risk, compliance or financial control; experience in insurance or financial services is an added advantage
- Demonstrable experience in risk-based auditing, internal controls, compliance reviews and audit reporting
- Analytical and critical thinking, attention to detail and accuracy, integrity and professionalism, risk and control management
- Communication and stakeholder management, problem solving and continuous improvement
- Advanced Microsoft Excel including data manipulation, reconciliation and analytical techniques; knowledge of data analytics and visualization tools
