Sino Minerals Investments Company Limited (SMI) was incorporated in Uganda in 2010 as a mineral exploration and mining company and is headquartered at Plot 104-106, 5th Street Industrial Area, Kampala (P.O. Box 129181 / 7321, Kampala). SMI is Uganda's largest iron ore producer and operates the country's biggest mechanized iron ore mine at Buhara in Kabale District (Mining Lease ML 1297) with a proven reserve of about 30 million tonnes of hematite iron ore. The company uses Uganda's only iron ore wet crushing technology, which eliminates dust during crushing and improves ore quality for steel production. Beyond Buhara, SMI continues to explore magnetite and other minerals including gold and wolfram in Kabale, Kisoro, Bushenyi, Buhweju, Rubanda and the Mid-West, East, North and Karamoja regions. SMI supplies high-grade ore to Tembo Steel, National Cement Company (Simba Cement), Abyssinia Group of Industries, Terra Industrial Development Co. and Yaobai International Holding. Guided by its vision to be Uganda's leading responsible mining company, SMI operates in compliance with the Mining and Minerals Act 2022 and NEMA regulations and invests in local communities through education scholarships, road maintenance, clean water, elderly support and local employment. This context is directly relevant to the Laboratory Analyst role, which supports quality control, ore grade verification and compliance at the laboratory and mine site.
Job Details
Sino Minerals Investments Co. Ltd is seeking 02 Laboratory Analysts to perform chemical and analytical testing of mineral, ore, geological and other laboratory samples. The role is based in Uganda (Head Office: Plot 104-106, 5th Street Industrial Area, Kampala - with laboratory operations linked to the Buhara Iron Ore Mine, Kabale). This is a Full-time position requiring strong analytical skills, accuracy in reporting and strict adherence to laboratory standards, company procedures and health and safety requirements. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform chemical and analytical testing of mineral, ore, geological, and other laboratory samples
- Conduct analysis using appropriate laboratory equipment and standard operating procedures
- Interpret, verify, and report analytical results accurately
- Undertake quality control and quality assurance procedures
- Prepare analytical reports and maintain proper documentation of results
- Ensure compliance with laboratory standards, company procedures, health and safety requirements
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, Geochemistry, or a related field
- Knowledge of chemical analysis techniques and laboratory instrumentation
- Experience with quality control and laboratory documentation
- Accuracy, attention to detail and ability to maintain proper analytical records
- Knowledge of laboratory health, safety and quality standards
