Laboratory Assistant

Hope Medical and Diagnostic Centre is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support the laboratory team in specimen collection, preparation, processing, and routine laboratory activities while maintaining high standards of accuracy, hygiene, and safety. Duty Station: Magamaga, Mayuge District. Employment Type: Full Time. Work Hours: 8 hours.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive, label, and appropriately handle patient specimens.
• Assist with specimen collection, preparation, and processing.
• Support laboratory technologists and technicians with routine laboratory procedures.
• Prepare laboratory equipment and workstations for use.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
• Follow infection prevention, biosafety, and waste-disposal procedures.
• Assist with proper storage and transportation of specimens.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
• Monitor laboratory supplies and report shortages to the appropriate supervisor.
• Handle laboratory equipment and materials responsibly.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Certificate or Diploma in Laboratory Technology/Medical Laboratory Sciences or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Must be registered with the relevant professional council where applicable.
• Good understanding of laboratory safety and specimen-handling procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Honest, organized, and able to work under minimal supervision.
