Laboratory Assistant

Job Details

St. Mary's Hospital Lacor, a private, non-profit hospital located in Gulu City, Uganda, is seeking qualified and self-motivated Laboratory Assistants. The Laboratory Assistant will provide general support in the laboratory by assisting with specimen handling, preparation, cleaning, and maintenance of laboratory order and safety. This is a full-time position based at Gulu City, Gulu, with 2 vacancies available.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the collection, handling, and transportation of laboratory specimens.
• Prepare laboratory materials and support routine laboratory activities.
• Clean and maintain laboratory work areas and equipment.
• Assist in organizing and storing laboratory supplies.
• Support documentation and filing of laboratory records.
• Observe safety, hygiene, and infection prevention standards.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• National Certificate in Medical Laboratory Techniques or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Must be duly registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant work experience in a laboratory or health facility.
• Basic specimen-collection and laboratory-support skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain cleanliness and order in the laboratory.
