Job Details
The Laboratory Technologist will perform and oversee a range of laboratory investigations to support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The position is based in Kampala (Kampala | Kampala) at Kampala Independent Hospital on a full-time basis with 8 work hours. Industry: Health Care. Base Salary: Not Disclosed. Reporting to the laboratory/clinical team, the role requires strict adherence to biosafety, infection-prevention and quality-assurance procedures and maintenance of patient confidentiality.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests accurately and efficiently according to approved procedures.
- Receive, identify, process, and analyze patient specimens.
- Verify and document laboratory results.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Conduct quality-control checks and participate in quality-assurance activities.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of specimens and laboratory waste.
- Monitor laboratory reagents and supplies and report shortages.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Communicate critical results promptly to the appropriate clinical team.
- Follow infection-prevention, biosafety, and occupational-health procedures.
- Support laboratory audits and continuous quality improvement.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Relevant degree/diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences/Technology from a recognized institution.
- Valid professional registration and practising licence where applicable.
- Relevant laboratory experience is an advantage (minimum 12 months experience required).
- Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Bachelor's degree level of education required.
