Biyinzika Poultry Uganda Limited is hiring a Maintenance Planner in the Maintenance/Engineering Department at Kigunga Farm, Uganda. Employment is Full Time/Permanent at Entry Level, reporting to the Maintenance Manager with functional supervision by the Operations Director. The Planner is the operational backbone of the maintenance function, developing and managing the maintenance planning system across HGV fleet, refrigeration, electrical, workshop plant and facility infrastructure using CMMS to maximize reliability and control costs. The role is planning/coordination, not hands-on repair.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve the Master Maintenance Plan covering all assets aligned to manufacturer intervals, operational requirements and reliability data
- Produce weekly and monthly maintenance schedules allocating tasks to mechanics, electrical and refrigeration engineers based on skill, workload and criticality
- Coordinate maintenance scheduling with Fleet Coordinator to minimize fleet availability impact and manage work order lifecycle from creation to closure in CMMS
- Develop asset criticality rankings to guide prioritization of reefer units, prime movers and electrical distribution
- Plan and manage planned maintenance shutdowns and major outages: work packs, resource plans, material lists, contractor scopes, safety requirements, pre-shutdown meetings, real-time tracking and post-shutdown reviews
- Serve as CMMS administrator maintaining asset register, work order templates, PM triggers, spare parts linkages and user access; ensure data integrity and train personnel
- Generate standard CMMS reports: work order status, backlog, PMS compliance, cost-per-asset, MTBF/MTTR trends
- Derive advance materials requirements, maintain critical spare parts lists, coordinate long-lead-time parts for refrigeration, electrical and HGV components and analyse consumption data
- Analyse maintenance data to identify failure patterns, optimise PM frequencies, apply RCM principles and track MTBF, MTTR, OEE
- Prepare scopes for external contractors, track performance against schedule/quality/cost, maintain maintenance budget tracker and support annual budget compilation
- Prepare comprehensive monthly maintenance performance dashboard and weekly schedules, shutdown reports and ad-hoc engineering information
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, Kyambogo University or recognised equivalent
- Certification in Maintenance Planning & Scheduling (PEMAC, SMRP or equivalent) preferred; CMMS certification (SAP PM, IBM Maximo, Fiix etc.) preferred; RCM/TPM training and Project Management (Prince2, PMP) advantageous; UIPE membership advantageous
- At least 1-2 years experience in maintenance planning, reliability engineering or maintenance management in industrial, manufacturing, agro-processing, logistics, utilities or heavy transport environment
- Demonstrated experience developing/managing preventive maintenance schedules across multi-asset, multi-discipline environments
- Hands-on CMMS administration experience and shutdown planning experience
- Prior experience in transport, fleet management or cold-chain logistics is an advantage
- Deep understanding of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance strategies; CMMS administration; data analysis; reliability concepts (MTBF, MTTR, RCM); maintenance budgeting; spare parts inventory; contractor management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office advanced Excel and Microsoft Project
- Systems thinker, data-oriented, disciplined, commercially aware, collaborative, calm under disruption
