Job Details
- Company: Numida
- Position: Marketing Associate Retention
- Reports to: Sales & Marketing Manager / Head of Marketing and Sales
- Location: Kampala, Uganda (covering all three markets)
- Employment Type: Full Time
- Expected Start Date: October 2026
- Work Mode: Flexible hybrid environment with competitive compensation
- Application Deadline: Rolling - applicants encouraged to apply early
- Role Summary: Acquiring a new client is the most expensive way for a lender to grow. Numida has thousands of business owners who borrowed and repaid well but have since gone quiet. This is a new, high-ownership generalist role to build retention and lifecycle marketing from the beginning. Around 70% of time is dedicated to retention and lifecycle marketing, with 30% supporting wider marketing priorities (acquisition campaigns, product launches, market launches/events, research and cover). Programmes are built and tested in one market and scaled to others with evidence. Success is reviewed on business impact, delivery, efficiency and collaboration, with delivery carrying real weight.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Segment the client base (Active, dormant, churned, at-risk, high-value and other relevant cuts)
- Establish baseline figures for repeat behaviour, dormancy and reactivation that do not currently live in one place
- Build and run reactivation programmes for dormant and churned clients
- Design repeat journeys that help a first-time borrower take a second and then a third loan
- Drive adoption messaging for savings, multi-term loans and other new products launched to the existing base
- Develop loyalty communities as retention infrastructure, including NumiQueens, the invite-only community for high-performing female clients
- Manage lifecycle messaging across SMS, WhatsApp and in-app channels
- Write short, plain, human copy that sounds like a partner talking to a business owner, in English and in local language where it matters
- Implement rigorous measurement with a control group wherever possible to determine true incrementality
- Own and maintain a regular cohort view that the rest of the team can read easily
- Provide weekly read on live programme performance vs control, monthly review of what to start/stop, and quarterly decision on what travels across markets with evidence
- Maintain a working playbook for owned work, a vendor and partner list with rates and contacts, and records of tests and outcomes
- Collaborate closely with Product, Data and country marketing teams (partnerships, not reporting lines) and participate in weekly check-ins with manager focused on what shipped and what the numbers did
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Around 3 to 5 years in marketing with real exposure to CRM, lifecycle or retention work from lending, telco, insurance, e-commerce or similar fields
- Ability to pull your own data, or strong appetite to learn quickly (no dedicated analyst on call)
- Good grasp of testing: control groups, sample sizes, and honesty to call a result flat when it is flat
- Clear, short, human copywriting in English
- Breadth and flexibility to be pulled into acquisition, launch or event work when the team needs it
- Comfort building something before results arrive and owning work end-to-end
- Languages that are an advantage: Luganda, Swahili or Kinyarwanda
- SQL, Redash or similar querying experience is an advantage
- Experience working across more than one market or country is an advantage
- First 90 days milestones: understand clients, products and numbers well enough to have own opinions; run owned work to a visible plan with dates met; establish key relationships inside team and with vendors/partners; bring at least one new idea based on direct observation
