Job Details
Movit Products is hiring a Mechanic to ensure optimal performance, safety and cost efficiency of the fleet through preventive maintenance, timely repairs and effective oversight of third-party service providers. The role is based in Uganda on a Full Time basis and reports within the fleet/transport function with adherence to Movit Group and in-country policies and safety standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct preventive maintenance on all vehicles in line with service schedules to minimize breakdowns and downtime.
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Carry out regular vehicle inspections and generate condition reports for decision-making.
- Assess vehicles prior to third-party repairs to validate scope of work and control maintenance costs.
- Supervise and verify work done by external garages/service providers to ensure quality and value for money.
- Ensure use of genuine and approved spare parts in all repairs and maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs and repair histories for all vehicles.
- Identify recurring faults and recommend long-term solutions to improve fleet reliability.
- Support breakdown response and provide technical guidance where needed.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and company policies during all maintenance activities.
- Ensure economical use of spare parts, tools, equipment and consumables to minimize waste.
- Identify department risks, their mitigations and keep track of them.
- Ensure regulatory compliance in execution of activities within Uganda and adherence to all Movit Group and In Country Policies and Procedures.
- Prepare and submit location daily report.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Minimum of a Certificate in Automotive Mechanics or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Certification from OEMs such as Scania is an added advantage.
- At least 2–5 years of hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and repair (trucks and light vehicles preferred).
- Strong diagnostics and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance schedules and fleet management practices.
- Ability to supervise external service providers and ensure value for money.
- Commitment to safety standards, regulatory compliance and cost control.
