This is highly beneficial for the Medical Officer role: you will work within a multidisciplinary, multi-specialty environment (Cardiology, Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Oncology and more), with access to modern diagnostics via C-Lab, structured clinical protocols, ward rounds and CME/audit programmes, and a strong patient-experience and safety culture.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat patients in outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in line with clinical guidelines
  • Conduct medical procedures within scope of practice
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly
  • Admit, review, and discharge patients appropriately
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records
  • Provide clear medical reports and documentation
  • Provide urgent and emergency care when required
  • Stabilize critically ill patients and coordinate referrals if necessary
  • Work closely with nurses, specialists, pharmacists, and laboratory teams
  • Participate in ward rounds, case reviews, and multidisciplinary meetings
  • Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, and preventive care
  • Promote health awareness and disease prevention
  • Adhere to hospital policies, clinical protocols, and ethical standards
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and safety
  • Participate in audits, CMEs, and continuous professional development
  • Deliver compassionate, respectful, and patient-centered care at all times
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and their families
  • Ensure patients are well-informed about their diagnosis, treatment options, and progress
  • Actively listen and respond to patient concerns, feedback, and complaints
  • Promote a culture of service excellence and uphold the hospital's patient experience standards

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a reputable university
  • Valid practicing license from the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC)
  • Minimum of 1 year's clinical post-internship experience
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of clinical guidelines, patient management and emergency response
  • Strong collaboration, communication and patient education skills
  • Commitment to compliance, quality assurance, ethics and continuous professional development
