The Network & Security Engineer will join the Network and Infrastructure team and contribute to Future Link's promise of 99.9% secure platform availability by proactively optimizing infrastructure performance, overseeing network connectivity, supporting internal network security management, and maintaining strict adherence to ISO 27001 Security Standards and regulatory requirements. The role is the key technical point of contact for network integrations, ensuring seamless, highly reliable connectivity between remote customer locations, external service partners, and core infrastructure. Location: Uganda. Employment Type: Full Time. Team: Security and Infrastructure Team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support network connectivity across private APN solutions, cellular gateways, site-to-site IPsec VPNs, and public internet connections.
  • Work directly with external technical teams and service providers to resolve trunk issues, routing errors, last-mile failures, and link degradations.
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain core firewalls, routers, switches, and VLANs, ensuring minimal downtime and strict access control across all channels.
  • Maintain and support Windows desktop and Linux server environments, running standard command-line tools to diagnose network traffic, inspect logs, and assist with routine system maintenance.
  • Enforce organizational security policies, assist with regular system audits, track security logs, and ensure all network configurations comply with ISO 27001 controls.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, respond to perimeter alerts, and author/maintain clear network topology diagrams, incident escalation paths, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical field.
  • CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or equivalent network certification (e.g., CCNP, JNCIA, CompTIA Network+).
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP, VLAN segmentation, routing protocols, DNS/DHCP, site-to-site IPsec VPNs, and perimeter firewall management.
  • Practical familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems (command-line navigation, system service management, user permissions, and CLI diagnostics using tcpdump, traceroute, ss).
  • Ability to articulate technical issues clearly when collaborating with external partners, and to write comprehensive technical documentation, incident reports, and SOPs.
  • Security-focused certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), GISF, or equivalent basic security credentials is an advantage.
  • Prior experience working in a Fintech, Bank, or other Central Bank-regulated environment is an advantage.
  • Familiarity operating within an ISO 27001 certified environment, maintaining security logs, or participating in formal security and compliance audits is an advantage.
  • Exposure to Bash or Python scripting for automating routine administrative tasks and system health checks is an advantage.
  • Analytical, emotionally resilient, collaborative, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
