Pharmacist

Job Details

The Pharmacist is responsible for the safe and effective management of pharmaceutical services within Holy Innocents Children's Hospital in Mbarara City, Uganda. This is a full-time position based in Mbarara City. Working hours are 8 hours per day. Salary is not disclosed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Accurately dispense prescription medications to patients, ensuring correct dosages and providing clear instructions.
• Review treatment sheets and prescriptions to identify potential drug interactions, contraindications, or errors.
• Counsel patients on medication usage, side effects, storage, and adherence to treatment regimens.
• Manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, and storing pharmaceuticals to prevent shortages and wastage.
• Ensure all pharmaceutical activities comply with relevant regulations, including controlled substances management.
• Prepare specialized formulations as required (pharmacy compounding).
• Maintain accurate records of dispensed medications, controlled substances, and pharmacy activities.
• Document and report adverse drug reactions and medication errors (pharmacovigilance).
• Work closely with clinicians and nurses to ensure safe and effective medication use.
• Provide guidance and training to pharmacy support staff.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of dispensing, medication review, and patient counseling.
• Experience in pharmacy inventory management and regulatory compliance.
• Skills in documentation, pharmacovigilance, and collaboration with clinical teams.
• Must be registered with the relevant professional body where applicable.
