Norvik Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Dispenser to support the efficient operation of its fully-equipped, 24-hour pharmacy at Norvik Hospital, Bombo Road, Kampala, Uganda. The role is Full Time and based at the hospital's main campus on Plot 13 Bombo Road. The successful candidate will accurately dispense medications, maintain inventory, ensure compliance with established pharmaceutical standards, and provide excellent service to patients and healthcare providers. The pharmacy serves OPD, IPD and over-the-counter clients, including emergency care, chronic disease management and vaccines. Reporting line: Pharmacy / Hospital Administration. Employment Type: Full Time.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet and assist health care providers and patients in person and by phone; answer questions and requests and refer inquiries to the pharmacist.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level; anticipate needed medications and supplies; place and expedite orders; verify receipt and remove outdated drugs.
- Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Organize medications for dispensing by reading medication orders and prescriptions; prepare labels; calculate quantities; assemble intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies.
- Review patient prescriptions to check for any errors before dispensing and interact with the prescriber to correct any medication errors.
- Maintain records by recording and filing doctors' orders and prescriptions.
- Ensure medication availability by delivering medications to patients and departments.
- Prepare reports by collecting and summarizing information.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution — required medical/pharmacy qualification.
- Valid registration with the relevant professional body (Allied Health Professionals Council / Pharmacy Council) — required.
- Minimum of 2 years' working experience in a busy hospital or retail pharmacy setting.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical stock management, dispensing, labeling and IV preparation.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy in prescription review and error detection.
- Good communication and customer service skills for patients and healthcare providers.
- Adherence to infection-control, safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to maintain records, prepare reports and work collaboratively in a team.
