AsOne Ministries is a Christ-centered nonprofit committed to making disciples and creating sustainable solutions in education, enterprise, health and agriculture in rural, underserved communities across Uganda. The P.E./Biology Teacher is based in Luuka / Serere Community, Uganda and works closely with the Director of Studies, fellow subject teachers and AsOne leadership. This is a full-time role (8 work hours) responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging instruction in Physical Education and Biology to secondary students (O-Level and/or A-Level) in line with the national curriculum and UNEB syllabus. Salary is not disclosed. The role equips students with physical fitness, sportsmanship and teamwork skills alongside scientific inquiry, laboratory and analytical skills for academic advancement, healthy living and future careers within a Christ-centered learning environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver Physical Education and Biology lessons in line with national secondary curriculum and UNEB syllabus requirements
• Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment schedules for all assigned classes (O-Level and/or A-Level)
• Deliver clear, engaging lessons that build conceptual understanding of biological processes, human anatomy and physiology, and physical fitness/sports theory
• Use varied methods, demonstrations, practical drills and problem-solving activities to accommodate different learning styles
• Set, administer and mark class tests, assignments and examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback
• Track learner performance and progress, identifying gaps and providing remedial support where needed
• Prepare students for national examinations (UCE/UACE) and internal assessments in Biology, ensuring full syllabus coverage
• Integrate health education, nutrition, HIV/AIDS awareness and injury prevention into P.E. and Biology lessons as guided by MoES
• Plan and supervise Biology practical lessons and experiments in the school laboratory in line with UNEB practical examination requirements
• Guide students in safe and correct use of laboratory apparatus, specimens and equipment
• Plan, organize and supervise P.E. lessons, athletics training, team sports and games sessions on the school field/court
• Maintain laboratory equipment as well as sports equipment and playing fields/facilities, and coordinate with administration on procurement of supplies
• Ensure health and safety standards are observed during all laboratory, practical and sports/physical activities, including basic first aid readiness
• Organize inter-house and inter-school sports competitions, athletics days, science fairs or STEM/sports-related activities that reinforce learning with real-world application
• Mentor students interested in sports, physical training, health sciences and STEM-related career paths including further studies
• Coach and prepare school sports teams for inter-school, zonal and national competitions
• Encourage participation in science clubs, sports clubs, competitions and academic/athletic exhibitions
• Provide guidance and support to students struggling with Biology concepts or physical fitness goals, including extra tuition or training
• Model discipline, sportsmanship, curiosity and strong work ethic that inspires confidence in both physical fitness and the sciences
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, fitness assessments and continuous assessment
• Contribute to budgeting and procurement for textbooks, laboratory materials, sports equipment and teaching aids
• Ensure proper care, maintenance and stock control of laboratory equipment, sports gear, textbooks and instructional materials
• Work collaboratively with Director of Studies and fellow teachers, participate in departmental meetings, staff briefings and school-wide events
• Collaborate on co-curricular activities related to sports, health, agriculture and environmental stewardship; engage parents and local community in supporting physical wellbeing and practical science learning
• Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Education with Physical Education and Biology as teaching subjects, or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years' teaching experience at secondary school level, preferably teaching Physical Education and/or Biology
• Sound knowledge of national secondary P.E. and Biology curriculum, UNEB syllabus and Ministry of Education and Sports guidelines
• Practical experience conducting Biology laboratory demonstrations/experiments and coaching or officiating school sports
• Registered/licensed with relevant Ugandan teaching body where applicable (e.g., valid Teaching Practice Certificate/registration with MoES)
• Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to Christ-centered education
• Passionate about teaching and mentoring young people in science and physical fitness
• Patient, clear and skilled at breaking down complex or abstract concepts for learners at different levels
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, balancing lesson planning, marking, practical sessions and sports training/coaching
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff and parents
• High level of integrity, responsibility and accountability for school resources including laboratory and sports equipment; collaborative team player
• Physically fit and able to actively demonstrate and participate in sports and physical activities
• Strong command of Biology subject content across secondary curriculum and sound knowledge of physical education theory and practice
• Skilled in practical/laboratory instruction, demonstration techniques and experiment supervision
• Skilled in sports coaching, training program design and officiating of games and athletics
• Competent in lesson planning, assessment design and academic record-keeping
• Basic proficiency in using technology and instructional aids; capable of maintaining a safe, organized and functional laboratory and sports environment
