Job Details
Project Accountant (01 position) reporting to the Finance Officer. Responsible for tracking project budgets, processing project-related transactions, and financial reporting & compliance in line with donor and organization guidelines. Full-time, based in Uganda. Contract involves field coordination with project managers and finance staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly BVA reports for budget insights to the financial performance
- Utilize financial software to manage project accounting processes, ensuring data integrity and accuracy
- Prepare timely financial reports and reconciliations for projects for onward submission to the Finance Officer ranging from 3rd to 15th depending on projects
- Maintain accurate and properly filed records of all project expenditures, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and donor policies
- Monitor cash flows related to projects, predicting future cash needs to keep projects funded
- Ensure timely processing of invoices for project deliverables and monitor accounts receivable related to project income
- Ensure adherence to applicable financial regulations and internal policies regarding project finances
- Prepare documentation and financial information for internal reviews and for external audits to support transparency and accountability
- Work closely with project managers, supervisors including other finance staff and other departments to align financial reporting with project objectives
- Perform any other duties that might be assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a closely related field
- CPA or ACCA qualification, preferably completed or at least at an advanced level
- Minimum of 3 years of project finance management experience in NGO setting
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, expenditure tracking, financial reporting, audit preparation, internal controls, bank reconciliations, tax compliance, and supporting procurement/payment documentation
- Experience working with field offices or refugee-response operations would be an added advantage
- Familiarity with Uganda tax requirements, including withholding tax and VAT treatment
- Strong knowledge of financial software and data integrity
