AsOne Ministries is a Christ-centered, non-profit organization committed to making disciples of Jesus and creating sustainable solutions in education, enterprise, health, and agriculture. The Registered Midwife is responsible for providing safe, high-quality maternal, newborn, and reproductive health services at the AsOne Ministries health facility in the Namutumba (Serere) community, in line with Uganda Ministry of Health (MoH) standards and guidelines. The role combines strong clinical and midwifery competence with compassionate, respectful, woman-centered care, ensuring positive pregnancy, birth, and newborn outcomes. Works closely with the Clinical Officer/In-Charge, fellow health workers, and the local community to promote safe motherhood, family planning, and child health within a Christ-centered model of care. Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct antenatal care (ANC) assessments and examinations for pregnant women in line with Uganda Focused Antenatal Care (FANC) guidelines.
• Screen, monitor, and manage common and high-risk pregnancy conditions, referring complicated cases promptly.
• Provide health education on nutrition, birth preparedness, danger signs, and complication readiness.
• Administer routine ANC interventions, including tetanus immunization, iron/folic acid supplementation, deworming, and malaria prophylaxis (IPTp).
• Offer HIV counselling and testing and initiate or monitor prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) services.
• Maintain accurate antenatal records and mother-baby health cards.
• Provide skilled attendance during labour and delivery while monitoring maternal and fetal wellbeing using the partograph and other MoH-approved tools.
• Conduct normal vaginal deliveries safely, including active management of the third stage of labour (AMTSL).
• Recognize, manage, and promptly refer obstetric emergencies such as postpartum haemorrhage, obstructed labour, and eclampsia.
• Provide immediate newborn care, including resuscitation when necessary, cord care, drying, skin-to-skin contact, and early initiation of breastfeeding.
• Provide postnatal care to mothers and newborns, monitoring for postpartum complications and providing wound/episiotomy care and breastfeeding support.
• Educate mothers and families on postnatal danger signs, newborn care, hygiene, and birth spacing.
• Provide family planning counselling and services, including short- and long-term methods within scope of practice.
• Provide cervical cancer screening and STI screening and treatment and reproductive health education.
• Support adolescent- and youth-friendly reproductive health services with confidentiality and sensitivity.
• Conduct growth monitoring and nutrition assessments and provide under-five clinic services for infants and young children.
• Administer routine childhood immunizations according to the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunization (UNEPI) schedule.
• Screen for and manage common childhood illnesses and refer complicated cases appropriately.
• Promote exclusive breastfeeding and provide infant and young child feeding counselling.
• Identify and respond promptly to maternal, newborn, and gynaecological emergencies and coordinate timely and safe referral and transfer.
• Ensure emergency delivery and newborn resuscitation equipment and supplies are ready for use at all times.
• Maintain accurate maternal, newborn, and child health records, registers, and partographs and compile timely ANC, delivery, PNC, and immunization reports.
• Participate in maternal death reviews, audits, and quality-of-care improvement activities.
• Maintain adequate stocks of essential drugs, delivery kits, and newborn care supplies and ensure sterilization and infection prevention and control practices.
• Work collaboratively with the Clinical Officer/In-Charge and other health workers and participate in staff meetings, training, and continuous professional development.
• Collaborate with Village Health Teams (VHTs) and community health structures to strengthen antenatal follow-up, birth notification, and postnatal home visits.
• Participate in community health education, outreach clinics, and safe motherhood campaigns.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Midwifery, or Registered Comprehensive Nursing and Midwifery, from a recognized institution.
• Valid registration and practising licence with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC) and be in good standing.
• At least 2 years of clinical experience in maternal and newborn health, preferably in a labour ward or maternity unit.
• Sound knowledge of Uganda Ministry of Health safe motherhood protocols, FANC, IMCI, and PMTCT guidelines.
• Valid certification in Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC), Basic Life Support/CPR, and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).
• Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to Christ-centered service.
• Compassionate, respectful, and patient when caring for mothers, newborns, and families; calm, decisive, and effective under pressure.
• Highly ethical, confidential, accountable, and professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong clinical skills in antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and newborn care including normal delivery, partograph use, and management of common obstetric emergencies.
• Skills in family planning counselling and service provision.
• Knowledge of immunization schedules and child health and nutrition monitoring.
• Competence in health records management and HMIS reporting.
• Ability to maintain a clean, safe, well-organized, and fully functional maternity/labour ward.
