Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) is seeking two Research Assistants to support a pilot randomized controlled trial evaluating peer-delivered, home-based PrEP care for rural female sex workers in Kampala, Uganda. The successful candidates will support participant recruitment, screening, informed consent, enrolment, randomization and follow-up while coordinating home- and clinic-based study activities and supervising Peer Workers delivering home-based PrEP services. The role requires understanding of HIV prevention and PrEP care, experience working with populations at elevated risk for HIV, ability to communicate effectively in English and Luganda, and regular travel by motorcycle to study communities. This is a full-time position with 8 working hours.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruit, screen and enrol study participants, including obtaining informed consent and conducting randomization and follow-up.
  • Coordinate home- and clinic-based study activities and PrEP service delivery.
  • Supervise Peer Workers delivering home-based PrEP services including PrEP refills, HIV self-testing support, adherence counselling and referrals.
  • Collect research data, conduct participant interviewing and ensure data quality assurance and protocol compliance.
  • Track participant retention and conduct tracing for retention.
  • Handle urine sample collection and specimen management.
  • Monitor PrEP commodities and support community-based service delivery.
  • Maintain study documentation, report adverse events and protocol deviations.
  • Support study budgeting, participant reimbursements, financial accountability and reporting.
  • Ensure quality assurance and reporting of study concerns and logistics.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Relevant diploma/degree in a relevant field (associate degree level).
  • Knowledge of HIV prevention and PrEP care.
  • Experience working with populations at elevated risk for HIV / key populations.
  • Experience in research data collection and participant interviewing.
  • Computer skills.
  • Experience in team supervision and supervising Peer Workers.
  • PrEP service experience.
  • Effective communication in English and Luganda.
  • Valid riding permit and ability to travel regularly by motorcycle to study communities.
  • At least 1 year (12 months) of relevant experience.
