AsOne Ministries is a Christ-centered, non-profit organization committed to making disciples of Jesus and creating sustainable solutions in education, enterprise, health, and agriculture in rural, underserved communities across Uganda.

The School Bursar is responsible for the overall financial management of the school, including fees collection, revenue management, financial record-keeping, procurement, inventory, and internal controls across Namutumba, Serere, and Luuka Communities, Uganda. The role ensures prudent, transparent, and accountable use of school funds and provides accurate and timely financial information to school leadership and AsOne Ministries within a Christ-centered framework of integrity and stewardship. This is a Full Time position (8 hours) with deadline Friday, September 11, 2026. Salary not disclosed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the school, ensuring efficient and accountable use of resources.
  • Prepare the annual school budget in collaboration with the Head Teacher and school leadership, and monitor expenditure against it.
  • Advise school leadership on the financial implications of decisions and ensure all transactions comply with AsOne Ministries' financial policies and procedures.
  • Monitor cash flow to ensure the school can meet its operational obligations.
  • Coordinate collection of school fees and other revenue, maintain accurate records of fees paid, balances, and defaulters, follow up on outstanding balances, issue receipts, and prepare regular fees collection and revenue reports.
  • Manage petty cash for approved minor operational expenses, maintain an accurate petty cash book, conduct reconciliations, safeguard funds, and report discrepancies promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and organized books of accounts including ledgers, cash books, receipts, and invoices.
  • Prepare timely financial statements and reports including income and expenditure statements and reconcile bank statements and other accounts regularly.
  • Ensure proper filing and retention of financial documents and support internal and external audits.
  • Coordinate procurement of school supplies, materials, and services, obtain and compare quotations, ensure value for money, and maintain up-to-date inventory of assets, supplies, and equipment.
  • Conduct regular stock checks, reconcile inventory with physical stock, and ensure proper storage, issuance, and tracking of materials.
  • Implement and enforce internal controls to safeguard funds and assets, ensure segregation of duties and proper authorization, and flag irregularities and risks promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with AsOne financial policies, donor requirements, and relevant government regulations.
  • Manage school bank accounts responsibly and process payments only against proper authorization and supporting documentation.
  • Serve as key point of contact for parents and guardians on fees and financial matters and liaise with suppliers, vendors, banks, and government offices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Teacher or administration.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial management, accounting, or bursary work, preferably within a school or non-profit setting.
  • Sound knowledge of bookkeeping, financial reporting, and basic accounting principles.
  • Proficient in bookkeeping, budgeting, and financial reporting and skilled in computerized accounting systems and spreadsheets (e.g., Excel, QuickBooks, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes and inventory management and ability to implement and monitor internal financial controls.
  • Capable of preparing clear financial reports for non-financial audiences.
  • High level of integrity, honesty, and accountability in handling school funds.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for engaging parents, staff, and suppliers.
  • Ability to work independently and handle confidential financial information responsibly and collaborate well with school leadership and staff.
  • Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to financial integrity and stewardship.
