Job Details
Servers will join the food preparation and serving team for patients on locum basis, with 1 day off per week. The role is based at IHK, Kampala District, Uganda and involves delivering prescribed meals, snacks and beverages directly to patients in wards while ensuring dietary compliance, hygiene and compassionate patient interaction. Work Hours: 8 hours. Base Salary: Not Disclosed. Work Mode: On-site at hospital wards / food service areas.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver meals, snacks, and beverages to patients in wards according to prescribed diets.
- Verify patient meal trays against dietary instructions.
- Ensure meals are served at the correct temperature and in a timely manner.
- Assist patients, where necessary, with opening food containers or setting up trays.
- Collect used trays, crockery, and cutlery after meals and return them for cleaning.
- Report any patient feedback, complaints, or issues with meals to the supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in food trolleys, trays, and serving equipment.
- Follow hospital infection control and food safety standards strictly.
- Support the nutrition team in monitoring food consumption if required.
- Show courtesy, patience, and empathy when interacting with patients.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Diploma in Catering or a related field (Associate degree level).
- At least 1 year experience in hotel service (12 months minimum).
- Previous experience in healthcare catering or patient meal service is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of nutrition and special diets.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and hospital infection control standards.
- Good interpersonal skills, courtesy, patience and empathy when dealing with patients.
- Ability to work accurately against dietary instructions and as part of a team.
