AsOne Ministries is a Christ-centered, non-profit organization investing in holistic development in rural, underserved communities across Uganda. The Sonographer will be responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound scans that support accurate diagnosis and treatment, particularly in maternal and general health care, while delivering warm, Christ-centered customer care. The role handles highly sensitive findings including pregnancy status, fetal abnormalities, and pregnancy loss with the highest level of confidentiality and professional integrity. This is a full-time position (8 hours) based in Namutumba Community, Uganda, reporting to the Clinic Manager / Clinical Officer. Salary not disclosed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound scans including obstetric, gynecological, abdominal, and general soft-tissue scans as requested by the Clinical Officer or referring clinician
• Position patients correctly and operate ultrasound equipment safely to obtain clear, diagnostic-quality images
• Accurately interpret and document sonographic findings, preparing clear reports for the referring clinician
• Identify and promptly flag urgent or abnormal findings (e.g., ectopic pregnancy, fetal distress, suspected malignancy) for immediate action
• Conduct antenatal ultrasound scans to assess gestational age, fetal growth, position, and wellbeing in coordination with the maternal health team
• Maintain and calibrate ultrasound equipment, ensuring it is clean, functional, safely stored, and report technical faults promptly
• Ensure correct infection prevention and control practices including cleaning of probes between patients
• Refer patients requiring specialized imaging to appropriate higher-level facilities
• Provide holistic care integrating physical, emotional, and spiritual support including prayer where welcomed
• Maintain accurate, complete, and secure records of all scans, including patient details, indications, and findings
• Complete and submit daily, weekly, and monthly imaging statistics and reports to the Clinic Manager or health authorities
• Monitor and manage stock levels of ultrasound gel, printing paper, and consumables, participating in ordering and inventory checks
• Ensure proper storage, backup, and controlled access of ultrasound images and reports (physical or electronic)
• Support scheduling and coordination of ultrasound appointments, prioritizing urgent or high-risk referrals
• Uphold strict confidentiality: share results only with patient and authorized clinical staff, conduct scans in private settings, never disclose findings to family or community without explicit patient consent, and report any breach to the Clinic Manager
• Welcome patients with warmth, respect, dignity, and communicate procedures clearly to reduce anxiety
• Deliver sensitive information with care and empathy and connect patients promptly with the Clinical Officer for follow-up counseling
• Work closely with Clinical Officer, midwives, nurses, and laboratory staff to integrate imaging findings into care
• Participate in clinical team meetings, case reviews, quality improvement discussions, and staff devotions/fellowships

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiography, or Medical Imaging Sciences from a recognized and accredited institution
• Valid registration and practicing license with the relevant Ugandan medical/allied health regulatory body
• Minimum of 2 years of sonography experience, preferably including obstetric and general abdominal ultrasound in a primary care, rural, or community health setting
• Solid understanding of obstetric, gynecological, and general abdominal ultrasound techniques and common sonographic findings
• Proficient in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting ultrasound equipment
• Strong diagnostic image interpretation and reporting skills
• Sound knowledge of infection prevention and control practices related to ultrasound
• Demonstrated discretion, trustworthiness, and professionalism in handling highly sensitive patient information
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong customer care orientation, especially when delivering sensitive news
• Ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure, including in urgent or emotionally difficult situations
• Basic computer literacy for imaging documentation, reporting, and record management
• Capable of creating a safe, dignified, and confidential environment for patients' physical and emotional well-being
