This Technician role is vital to maintaining high-quality laboratory teaching, safety, and research standards for the next generation of health professionals.

Position: Technician - Department of Pharmacy
Reporting To: Head of Department
Duty Station: Kampala
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Tenure of Appointment: 4-year contract
Remuneration: PU7
Work Hours: 8
Employment Type: Contract
Job Purpose: Assist in formulating, reviewing and maintaining standard operating procedures for use in the workplace (Laboratories).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Generate reports, inventories and orders in the Unit
• Generate budgets and account for use of physical resources of the Unit
• Manage the use of laboratory equipment and facilities
• Requisition, maintain and account for financial and other resources
• Prepare and supervise students' practicals
• Liaise with and provide support to the academic staff in the teaching of practicals
• Implement and maintain guidelines and regulations to ensure quality assurance, control and safety in unit
• Induct and mentor junior staff in the unit on technical skills
• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Technology – Chemistry or Bachelor of Science Technology – Chemistry or Bachelor of Food Science and Processing Technology or Bachelor of Food Science and Technology or Bachelor of Industrial Chemistry or Bachelor of Analytical Sciences or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Equivalents
• Added advantage:
  • Having a Diploma in Pharmacy
  • Having worked in an analytical laboratory
  • Having experience in medicine manufacturing
  • Having worked as quality personnel
• Experience: At least 3 years relevant working experience
• Skills/Competences:
  • Customer Care
  • Ability to communicate precisely and concisely
  • Analytical skills
  • Proficiency in using machines and computers

NOTE

• Age Limit: Applicants should NOT exceed 55 years of age at the time of application
• Applicants for the position of Assistant Lecturer should not exceed 40 years and should have a CGPA of 4.0 and above (3.60 for Psychiatry) – not applicable to this Technician post but listed in the general advert
