Job Details
St. Ambrose Charity Hospital – Kagadi, a private not-for-profit hospital committed to providing affordable, quality healthcare to the underserved community, seeks an Internal Medicine Specialist (Physician). The specialist will lead diagnosis, management of chronic illnesses and inpatient care within the hospital's medical wards and outpatient department. This is a full-time position based at the hospital in Nakulabye Trading Centre, along Hoima-Fort Portal Road, Kagadi Town, Kagadi District. The hospital operates a 70-bed facility with St. Alex Men and Children Ward and collaborates with government and NGO partners. Salary is not disclosed. Reporting to Hospital Administration. Work Hours: 8 hours.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage adult medical conditions including chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, infectious diseases).
- Provide comprehensive inpatient care, ward rounds and emergency medical care.
- Manage outpatient consultations and follow-up clinics.
- Coordinate investigations with laboratory, radiology (Ultrasound, X-ray) and other departments.
- Provide mentorship to Medical Officers, nurses and students from St. Ambrose Institute of Health Sciences.
- Ensure quality documentation, patient education and adherence to clinical protocols.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
- Master’s Degree in Internal Medicine from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration and license with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC).
- At least 2 years of post-qualification experience as a physician.
- Strong skills in diagnosis, management of chronic illnesses, and inpatient care.
- Dedicated, compassionate and able to work in a resource-limited charitable hospital setting.

St. Ambrose Charity Hospital is a private not-for-profit NGO hospital registered with the Ministry of Health (operational since 2nd June 2003). It is part of St. Ambrose Facilities which also includes St. Ambrose Institute of Health Sciences – a private not-for-profit institute based in Kagadi District that trains Compassionate and Skilled Healthcare Professionals ("For Model Health Professionals") to address the shortage of health personnel in Uganda and beyond.
