About the Organisation

Uganda Martyrs' Hospital (UMH) Diocese of Jinja is a newly established state-of-the-art Private Not for Profit (PNFP) hospital in Jinja City, founded by the Trustee of the Catholic Diocese of Jinja under the Ecclesiastical Province of Tororo Archdiocese in Eastern Uganda. The hospital is affiliated to the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB) - the health office of the Roman Catholic Church in Uganda and technical arm of the Health Commission of the Uganda Episcopal Conference - which coordinates a network of 34 hospitals (including 2 specialised hospitals), 19 training schools and 271 Lower Level Health Units with over 11,323 health workers delivering curative, preventive and promotional services in line with national health policy. UCMB's focus is a healthy and reconciled life for all individuals, families and communities through service delivery, human resources for health, medicines and medical technology, and health information systems.

Role Summary

The hospital is urgently recruiting a self-motivated, patient-centred and passionate Maintenance Technician to ensure optimal functioning of hospital equipment and facilities. The role is full-time, based in Jinja (Duty Station: Jinja | Jinja), with standard 8-hour workdays, reporting within the hospital's support services/engineering function. The technician will minimize downtime of critical medical and building systems through routine, preventive and corrective maintenance. Applicants must have a valid professional operation license and be registered with the relevant council bodies where applicable. Certifications in electrical, plumbing, or biomedical equipment maintenance are an added advantage.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on hospital equipment and facilities to ensure continuous safe operations.
  • Diagnose faults in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and carry out troubleshooting to identify root causes.
  • Carry out necessary repairs promptly to minimize downtime of clinical and non-clinical services.
  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and servicing according to established maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, records and reports for all work performed and materials used.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols and ensure compliance with hospital safety, infection prevention and safeguarding standards.
  • Support certification-related maintenance including electrical, plumbing and biomedical equipment maintenance as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Maintenance (Associate Degree level) or equivalent.
  • Certifications in electrical, plumbing, or biomedical equipment maintenance are an added advantage.
  • Minimum experience of 12 months (1 year) in equipment/facilities maintenance, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality setting.
  • Valid professional operation license and registration with the relevant council bodies.
  • Proven skills in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance, maintain accurate records, and adhere to health and safety protocols.
  • Self-motivated, patient-centred, passionate and able to work with minimal supervision in a faith-based not-for-profit environment.
  • Successful candidates will undergo reference checks and safeguarding screening in accordance with Diocesan recruitment policies.
