St. Ambrose Charity Hospital – Kagadi, a private not-for-profit hospital committed to providing affordable, quality healthcare to the underserved community, seeks a Medical Officer. The Medical Officer will provide general clinical care including patient assessment, diagnosis, emergency care and inpatient management across wards and outpatient department. This is a full-time position based at the hospital in Nakulabye Trading Centre, along Hoima-Fort Portal Road, Kagadi Town, Kagadi District. The hospital runs a 70-bed facility with two inpatient wards, OPD, laboratory, radiology, maternity and theatre, served by 40+ full-time staff. Salary is not disclosed. Work Hours: 8 hours. This role is ideal for a broadly skilled doctor seeking high-volume general practice in a charitable district hospital linked to a health training institute.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up for inpatients and outpatients.
• Provide emergency care, resuscitation and participate in on-call duties.
• Manage inpatients, perform ward rounds and coordinate referrals and admissions.
• Perform minor procedures and assist specialists in theatre where required.
• Maintain accurate medical records and ensure quality and compassionate care.
• Participate in health education, outreach and mentorship of interns and nursing students.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
• Must be registered and licensed with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC).
• Minimum three years of experience post-internship in a hospital setting.
• Strong clinical skills in patient assessment, diagnosis, emergency care, and inpatient management.
• Good communication, teamwork and commitment to serving underserved rural populations.
