Uganda Martyrs' Hospital (UMH) Diocese of Jinja, a newly established state-of-the-art Private Not for Profit (PNFP) hospital founded by the Trustees of the Catholic Diocese of Jinja under the Ecclesiastical Province of Tororo Archdiocese, is urgently recruiting self-motivated, patient-centred and passionate Medical Officers. The hospital missions clinical excellence with Christ-centered compassion, aiming to heal body, mind and spirit while serving both affluent and vulnerable communities without discrimination, and is envisaged to be a teaching and research hospital offering quality and affordable services. This is a full-time position based in Jinja, Jinja District, with 3 vacancies. The successful candidates will provide comprehensive clinical care, emergency services, patient monitoring, referral coordination and mentorship of junior clinical staff, maintaining accurate and confidential medical records in line with Diocesan recruitment and safeguarding policies. Base salary is not disclosed. Reporting to hospital clinical leadership under the Diocesan Health Services Department.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough medical histories, physical examinations and differential diagnoses (Clinical Assessment).
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans and prescribe medications (Treatment Planning).
  • Provide rapid assessment and stabilization for urgent and emergency cases (Emergency Care).
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary (Patient Monitoring).
  • Identify patients requiring specialist care and make timely referrals and coordinate care (Referral and Coordination).
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date patient medical records (Record Keeping).
  • Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans and prognosis clearly to patients and families (Patient and Family Education).
  • Supervise and mentor junior clinical staff.
  • Safely position and monitor patients during pre-operative and post-operative phases.
  • Adhere strictly to infection prevention and control (IPC) standards and ensure safe disposal of biomedical waste.
  • Support inventory management of medical sundries, medicines and consumables where required.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Valid practicing license and registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (and respective council bodies).
  • At least 3 years of relevant clinical experience in a busy hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated competence in clinical assessment, emergency care, treatment planning and patient monitoring.
  • Strong record-keeping, patient communication, and patient and family education skills.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior clinical staff.
  • Commitment to Christ-centered, compassionate, non-discriminatory care and to safeguarding and professional ethics.
  • Successful candidates will undergo reference checks and safeguarding screening in accordance with Diocesan recruitment policies.
