Orthopedic Surgeon
Job Details
St. Ambrose Charity Hospital – Kagadi, a private not-for-profit hospital committed to providing affordable, quality healthcare to the underserved community, seeks an Orthopedic Surgeon. The surgeon will provide comprehensive orthopedic services including fracture management, trauma care, joint procedures and orthopedic emergencies. This is a full-time position based at the hospital in Nakulabye Trading Centre, along Hoima-Fort Portal Road, Kagadi Town, Kagadi District. The hospital has an operational theatre (St. Michael Theatre) supported by a medical doctor, theatre nurse and anesthetist, and radiology services (X-ray and Ultrasound). Salary is not disclosed. Work Hours: 8 hours.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage fractures, dislocations and musculoskeletal trauma including emergency orthopedic care.
- Perform trauma care, joint procedures and elective orthopedic surgeries.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient orthopedic consultations and follow-up.
- Interpret radiological imaging and coordinate rehabilitation.
- Participate in emergency on-call duties and multidisciplinary ward rounds.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to quality improvement and health education.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
- Master’s Degree in Orthopedic Surgery from a recognized institution.
- Registration and license with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC).
- At least 2 years of post-qualification orthopedic surgical experience.
- Competence in fracture management, trauma care, joint procedures, and orthopedic emergencies.
- Strong surgical and decision-making skills suited to a charitable district hospital.
About St. Ambrose Charity Hospital - Kagadi
St. Ambrose Charity Hospital is a private not-for-profit NGO hospital registered with the Ministry of Health (operational since 2nd June 2003). It is part of St. Ambrose Facilities which also includes St. Ambrose Institute of Health Sciences – a private not-for-profit institute based in Kagadi District that trains Compassionate and Skilled Healthcare Professionals ("For Model Health Professionals") to address the shortage of health personnel.
