It covers Assistants / Lower Local Government — roles requiring a certificate (Craft or general certificate) — split into a professional/administrative ladder paid by yearly notch and, for scientific and medical posts, a flat rate that doesn't increase with years of service.

Frequently asked questions

U7 is a certificate-level public service grade for assistants and lower local government staff — it is often the entry point for roles such as Parish Chiefs, and also covers Police Constables, Prisons Warders and Education Assistants. It sits below U5 (diploma-level officers) and around U6, the other certificate-level grade.
A craft certificate or other lower-level/general certificate is the typical requirement for U7 posts. Some roles, such as Education Assistant (Grade III Teacher), have their own specific certificate requirement.
